Supplier Spotlight

Continuing our celebration of Indigenous Business Month, we turn the spotlight onto one of our suppliers up in the Pilbara who are providing accommodation and messing facilities to one of our coastal operations.

NYFL Karratha Village is a joint venture between Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi Foundation Ltd and Karratha Village Pty Ltd. NYFL holds a 51% interest in the NYFL Karratha Village joint venture. NYFL, NYFL Commercial and NYFL Karratha Village provide a range of training, support and work experience programs for indigenous people. The Warrgamugardi Yirdiyabura (WY) Program makes a positive contribution to the local community through the upskilling, training and educations of local people for employment readiness in the local community.

Since 2010, 76 community members have been involved in the WY Program. Of these, 41 have been employed, including 31 in full time jobs.

The business profits earned by NYFL Karratha Village are an important source of revenue which is used by NYFL to fund member services to its 1500 members in the traditional lands of the Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi peoples. These services include initiatives for social, cultural, economics, business and educational developments, training services, preserving and enhancing spoken languages through literacy programs and developing business enterprises.
