Preparing for NAIDOC Week Posted on 5 July 201816 July 2018NEMMS JV are busy preparing for NAIDOC week next week and we are looking forward to rolling out events across all our sites in WA.NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.Under the theme – Because of Her, We Can! – NAIDOC Week 2018 will be held nationally from Sunday 8 July to Sunday 15 July. As pillars of our society, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played – and continue to play – active and significant roles at the community, local, state and national levels. As leaders, trailblazers, politicians, activists and social change advocates, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women fought and continue to fight, for justice, equal rights, our rights to country, for law and justice, access to education, employment and to maintain and celebrate our culture, language, music and art.Head to the NAIDOC website for more information http://www.naidoc.org.auNEMMS JV acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout WA and recognises the continuing connection to land, waters and communities. We pay respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and to Elders past, present and emerging. At NEMMS JV we will celebrate the 2018 theme as we reflect on the contribution of two of our female Directors, Sue Bung and Frances Bung. Parcels are on their way to each site ready ahead of their functions. We are encouraging company wide participation in our celebrations to share stories and promote education and understanding.Look out for more posts as we celebrate NAIDOC week across the company.
