National Reconciliation Week Posted on 6 June 201816 July 2018Last week NEMMS JV recognised National Reconciliation Week at our sites across WA. Our Project Managers delivered a presentation designed by our Indigenous Business Manager, Jarrod Hayden. The presentation assists us on our reconciliation journey by raising staff awareness to significant dates and their meanings for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The theme this year was ‘Don’t keep history a mystery’ and this allowed opportunity for shared learning where our staff were given the time to share stories and ask questions about the week.At our RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) working group meeting back in April the team agreed to deliver blankets to communities across WA as part of the week’s celebrations. Last week saw the delivery of the Goomarin JV blankets to Wungening Aboriginal Corporation where CEO Daniel Morrison will distribute them to a local women’s refuge and to members who support the WA Alliance to End Homelessness. Daniel said “ it’s great to able to partner with private enterprise on this initiative and help the less fortunate in there time of need.”The rest of the blankets are on their way to Newman, Port Hedland and Punmu where Bruce, Sue and Frances Bung and Milton Chapman will distribute them in the coming weeks. This initiative started last year with Sue and Frances delivering blankets around the Newman area and has built this year to include all of our JV partners accessing a wider area across WA.We are busy planning for NAIDOC week in July and hope to increase the scope of our activities for these important events.Photo; Top left- Corporate office enjoyed scones and native fruit jams at the presentation.
