Indigenous Business Month Posted on 1 October 20181 October 2018Did you know that October is Indigenous Business Month? At NEMMS JV we think that is something worth celebrating so this is the first post of the month which aims to give you an understanding of what this month means and how we will be celebrating Indigenous Businesses throughout October. The Indigenous Business Month website explains the origins of the month as “an initiative of the MURRA Indigenous Master Class Program(MURRA) alumni, to promote the variety and depth of Indigenous businesses nationally and to provide an Indigenous business voice to the national conversation.” They “see business as a way of providing positive role models for young Indigenous Australians.”What does this mean for us? At NEMMS JV we are going to continue to focus on our Indigenous Suppliers. This month our Indigenous Business Manager and Procurement Superintendent will be out connecting with our Indigenous Suppliers so that we can further develop our relationships. Part of the role of our Indigenous Business Manager Jarrod Hayden, is to build our Indigenous Suppliers in our key spend categories and further to that we endeavour to support those businesses to become an integral part of our supply chain. At NEMMS JV our core company values, LISTEN, THINK, COMMIT, RECOGNISE drive the way in which we work every day and Indigenous Business Month is a great time for us to highlight our relationships with Indigenous Businesses and use our values to help us invest time into those suppliers. NEMMS JV is an Indigenous Joint Venture and we recognise that Aboriginal economic sustainability through business participation is important and a core driver for our continued success. We encourage all our partners and suppliers to get behind Indigenous Business Month.
