AEMEE Conference

The NEMMS JV Indigenous Business team attended the two-day conference last week and were excited to get into the packed agenda. MC and former Board Member Parry Agius guided us through the amazing stories told by the presenters under the theme, Our History, Our Future. Laying the platform for future generations.

A few stand out moments for our team were the Joint Venture and Partnership session where several examples of contractors working with the local Traditional Owners to form impressive business models and create community development across Australia.

The Session on youth engagement highlighted some incredible projects addressing the problems of Indigenous Youth Incarceration and back to work programs giving these young people second chances and opportunities for a better life.

The team from the Djarindjin Airport near the tip of Dampier Peninsula 170 kilometres north of Broome showed us dedicated Traditional Owners ensuring a sustainable future for their young people on country. The refuelling station services clients in the oil and gas fields and they also support the Royal Flying Doctor Service and have upskilled local people to work at the airport.

What a packed couple of days and Darwin provided us with a great setting to engage with so many hardworking prosperous Indigenous Businesses. Back to work in Perth and we have been challenged to keep moving forward with our work in the Indigenous space and will continue to develop our employment pathways and opportunities for Indigenous Businesses to engage with us on our supply chain.
